How to track a committee (BC) without a notebook
Updated 10 October 2026
Quick answer: Record your instalment as a monthly repeating expense in the Committee category, record your payout as income when your turn comes, and, if you run the committee, keep a shared book that every member can add to. Tijaorii does all three for free.
What a committee is
A committee (also called a BC or bisi) is a savings circle. Each member pays a fixed amount every month, and each month one member takes the whole pot. With ten members paying Rs 10,000, you pay Rs 100,000 over ten months and receive Rs 100,000 once, in the month your turn comes.
There is no interest and no profit. It works because it turns saving into a monthly habit, and because for whoever gets an early turn it is an interest-free loan from the group.
What to record
| What | When | In Tijaorii |
|---|---|---|
| Your instalment | Every month, on the due date | Expense → Committee, set to repeat every month |
| Your payout | Once, when your turn comes | Income → a category such as “Committee payout” |
| Which turn is yours | Once, when turns are drawn | A note on the repeating entry, e.g. “Turn 4 of 10” |
| Who has paid (organisers) | Every month | A shared book, one entry per member |
Step by step: if you are a member
- Open Tijaorii and tap +. Choose Expense, enter your instalment (for example 10,000) and pick the Committee category. It is there by default.
- Before saving, tap ↻ Repeat and choose Every month. Tijaorii adds the entry for you each month, so no instalment is forgotten.
- Add a note such as “Gulshan committee, turn 4 of 10”.
- When your payout arrives, add it as Income. Create a category called Committee payout so it stays apart from your salary.
- Open the summary. The Committee category shows how much you have paid in so far.
Step by step: if you run the committee
The organiser’s real job is knowing who has paid. A notebook works until someone asks to see it.
- Sign in, then create a new book, for example “Committee — Gulshan 2026”.
- Invite members with the book’s code. Everyone who joins sees the same book and can add entries.
- Each month, record each member’s payment as an entry with their name in the note. Members can add their own, too.
- Record the month’s payout as an expense with the receiver’s name, so the book comes back to zero each month.
- When anyone asks for the accounts, export the book to CSV or share the month as a PDF.
Mistakes to avoid
- Treating the payout as extra money. It is your own savings coming back; spend it all in the month it arrives and you have saved nothing.
- Recording the instalment only when you remember. A repeating entry keeps the month honest even when it is busy.
- Mixing two committees in one category. Use the note, or a separate category for each, to tell them apart.
Questions
Is a committee payout income?
In your records, yes: log it as income so the month balances. In reality it is your own money returned, so plan it like savings, not like a bonus.
Can I track more than one committee?
Yes. Give each one its own note or its own category, such as “Committee — office” and “Committee — family”.
Do I need an account or internet?
No. As a member you can track everything on your phone without an account. Only a shared book, for organisers, needs you to sign in.
Is Tijaorii free?
Yes. No ads and no paid tier. It is on the App Store now, and Android is coming soon.
